Today we will be talking about facial exfoliation.
The benefits of facial exfoliation
Did you know that the skin is made up of different layers and that the most superficial layer consists of dead cells?
And that it is precisely because they are dead that they don’t reflect the light well and make your skin dull?
Right: exfoliating means removing the dead skin cells and impurities so that the skin can breath and shine again.
Besides this, exfoliating has many other benefits:
- • IT PURIFIES THE EPIDERMIS: it cleans and frees pores clogged by serum (the loathsome blackheads), thereby preventing blockages and inflammation that can favour the appearance of blemishes like whiteheads and spots.
- • IT SMOOTHS AND IMPROVES THE TEXTURE OF THE SKIN: it shrinks and minimises enlarged pores, evens out the complexion and makes it visibly firmer and radiant.
- • IT FAVOURS THE PENETRATION OF SKINCARE PRODUCTS (serums and creams), thereby facilitating their absorption
- • IT STIMULATES THE PRODUCTION OF NEW COLLAGEN
Now you have no excuse not to exfoliate. However, it is important to know that there are different types of exfoliation!
Manual exfoliation vs chemical exfoliation
There are two main types of exfoliation, manual and chemical.
1) MECHANICAL EXFOLIATION
This kind is based on the use of true exfoliating substances (consisting in granules) to be massaged with the hands.
It is quick and easy and has an instant effect but it is important to apply excessive pressure, as this would irritate the skin. Once the product has been rinsed off, your skin is immediately smoother and more radiant.
Frequency = no more than TWICE A WEEK!
2) CHEMICAL EXFOLIATION
Chemical exfoliation is carried out with ingredients (acids or enzymes) that act without exerting a mechanical action on the skin. It is generally considered safer and more reliable and is usually better tolerated even by delicate skins (it goes without saying that we are talking about home treatment products here). In addition to leaving the skin smoother, it will improve its texture and reduce discolouration.
Frequency = some products (Luce Liquida?) can even be used EVERY DAY.
Which to choose?
If you have particular problems the products can be alternated with one another, otherwise it depends on the characteristics of your skin:
• Dry Skin: mechanical exfoliation with a gentle scrub (twice a week)
Immediately afterwards, apply a nourishing serum or mask to restore the hydrolipidic film.
• Oily Skin: acid-based exfoliation (once or twice a week)
Salicylic acid is particularly recommended for acne-prone skin.
• Normal Skin: no to harsh peeling treatments, use a product containing alpha hydroxy acids instead.
• Sensitive Skin: enzyme-based peeling treatments that restore the appearance of the epidermis without causing inflammation or irritation.
In the face products section of our website you will find specific solutions for exfoliating all skin types.
But there is one technique that is more versatile than all the others.
WHICH ONE?
MICROEXFOLIATION
Before any specific treatment, there is one step that cannot be missing from your beauty routine. One step that makes a great difference.
It is daily microexfoliation, the step that combines cleansing and exfoliation.
For us at Veralab, that means only one thing (well, two actually): Olio denso and the Microfibre cloth.
The combo that if it knew about it Forbes would define the
“NEVER WITHOUT OF UNIVERSAL SKINCARE”
How to use the microfibre cloth?
Although the Microfibre cloth can be used on its own, the best way to use it is together with a natural oil (and this is where Olio Denso comes in) to perform a thorough and slightly exfoliating CLEANSING BY AFFINITY.
For best results, use the cloth once a day.
Preferably in the evening, to remove make-up.
How?
- • Put on a fabric hair band, better still if it covers your ears.
- • Spread Olio Denso over a dry face and massage gently in the areas most prove to impurities, paying careful attention to remove all make-up.
- • Wet the microfibre cloth with warm or hot water.
- • Use the cloth to remove all traces of product, by doing so you will also perform a gentle mechanical exfoliation.
- • Rinse as preferred (you can choose not to rinse if you like).
- • Proceed with Luce Liquida, followed by your serum (if you use one) and then your cream.
This combo is perfect for:
- - Normal skin
- - Combination skin
- - Impure skin
- - Skin with an uneven texture
- - Skin with make-up (including that of those who, having watched one make-up tutorial too many, tend to be a bit heavy-handed)
One last piece of advice.
if you are wondering how to wash the cloth
After each use, wash it under running water with a small amount of neutral soap (our Spumone is also ideal). Every 2 weeks, wash it in the washing machine at 30-40 °C.
Remember to allow it to dry in a well-ventilated place or on a radiator.
