Blemishes? Dark circles? Localised redness? Uneven skin tone?
If any of these words sounds familiar, we have the solution for you. It’s called concealer and is an easy and effective make-up product that often intrigues but at the same time generates myriad doubts: which shade is right for me? What consistency should I choose? How should I apply it?
We shed some light on the matter, so that concealer can become your new best friend!
What is concealer?
Concealer is a cosmetic product used to cover skin imperfections like dark circles, dark spots, redness, spots and uneven skin tone, but it is also useful for sculpting and highlighting the face. Its consistency varies according to the type of problem to be corrected.
As a matter of fact, the various types of concealer differ according to their formulation and purpose:
Liquid concealer: has a lightweight texture, it is easy to spread and blend and is indicated for dry and mature skin, thanks to its light coverage and radiant finish.
Its formulation makes it versatile and suitable for different uses: making eyes look less tired, hiding minor blemishes, evening out skin tone (in the presence of dyschromias) and highlighting certain areas of the face, such as the bridge of the nose, the eyebrow arch and the cupid’s bow.
Our Wake up Cool belongs to this category.
But it is much more than a simple concealer: it is a corrective highlighter with skincare properties, because it contains functional active ingredients that act by improving puffiness and dark circles, as well as smoothing wrinkles and fine lines: its effectiveness is clinically tested*!
Wake Up Cool has a soft, silky and buildable texture and is perfect for highlighting and evening out the complexion in a natural way. Thanks to its light coverage and thin, elastic formulation, it is perfect for enhancing the eyes, creating an extremely natural look and boosting the skin’s radiance.
Cream, stick or compact concealer: has a thicker consistency and its medium-high coverage makes it perfect for hiding more obvious blemishes. It is particularly suitable for concealing more major problems like scars, dark circles, dark spots and pimples. It covers uneven skin tone by creating an even make up base, especially in those areas where it is most needed (such as the chin or the edges of the nose). It is ideal for dry or normal skin, as it usually has a moisturising action, so it doesn’t make wrinkles or fine lines more visible.
Cream concealer options include Master Pencil, our multipurpose concealer pencils that are versatile and easy to use.
Why multipurpose? Because Master pencil can be used as a complexion or spot concealer and for sculpting!
It conceals blemishes, dark circles and uneven skin tone and defines the contours of the face in a single step, thanks to the tip, which allows high-precision application and its blendable texture melts into the skin!
Colour corrector: then we have colour correctors, which help to neutralise imperfections using the complementary colour theory. For example, a green concealer is ideal for neutralising redness (e.g. acne, rosacea, etc.), peachy or orange shades for concealing bluish dark circles, and yellow hues for highlighting the face and covering purple dark circles.
Master Pencil also helps in this case: Master Pencil 04 is an ideal peach for concealing dark circles on pale complexions and Master Pencil 17 is the perfect orange for darker skin tones.
How should I apply concealer?
There are three fundamental steps to follow for flawless concealer application that ensures a natural effect while hiding blemishes. They are:
- 1. Prepare your skin: before applying concealer, it is important for your skin to be well moisturised: yes, you read right! Skin care comes first, so apply your eye contour product, serum and cream.
Here’s a tip if you are using Wake up Cool: the cap contains a steel ball for massaging and decongesting the eye contour area, to prepare it for the application of the product in the best possible way.
- 2. Spread the concealer over the area to be treated:
- 2.1 Eye contour area: apply little spots of concealer under the eyes, to form a triangle whose base is the area below the eye and whose tip points towards the cheek. Gently blend the product by tapping with your fingertips (use your ring finger for lighter pressure) or with a make-up sponge. Do not pull the skin, as this will accentuate wrinkles.
- 2.2 Blemishes (small pimples, dark spots, etc.): apply a small amount directly on the dark spot or pimple. Use a precision brush or your fingers to dab the concealer over the area without rubbing (otherwise you are likely to remove the product!).
- 2.3 Uneven skin tone: if you are concealing redness, very dark circles or other dyschromias, first apply a coloured concealer which, as we saw above, applies the complementary colour theory, and then use a concealer of the same colour as your skin (or foundation). Try combining Wake Up Cool and Master Pencil with our KIT MASTER COOL for fresh and well rested eyes like this! As a first step, use Master Pencil, the concealer pencil that is ideal for minimising blemishes, dark circles and uneven skin tone. Then apply Wake up Cool, to boost radiance, smooth and hydrate the eye contour area. Couldn’t be simpler, could it? Your eyes will be instantly more radiant and fresh-looking!
- 3. Set the concealer: once you have applied your concealer, use a translucent or slightly tinted powder to set it and give it greater durability. Our Still Light is perfect, because it is a powder that sets and moisturises (because it contains spheres of hyaluronic acid!) and ensures a radiant finish: apply it using the puff in the pack and then sit back and admire the results!
Now all you have to do is try it!
