A SHORT SCEPTIC’S GUIDE TO TREATING YOUR CELLULITE WITH THE MOST SUITABLE MUDS.
Using muds at home.
When buying a mud, it is important to know how to read the ingredients and understand which are really effective and which are just marketing (exactly as with creams).
So, what should you look at?
READ THE INCI.
- • Some muds contain active ingredients that cause redness and they are DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMENDED for people with fragile capillaries
- • Muds containing parabens should be excluded
- • Muds containing algae are not recommended in the case of pregnancy, breastfeeding and thyroid problems.
Tips on how to apply muds:
PRE-APPLICATION TIPS
We always recommend having a shower and performing a scrub before applying a mud. After exfoliation, the skin is undeniably better prepared to receive the active ingredients in your treatments.
Let’s get one thing straight from the word go:
With muds, it takes CONSISTENCY to obtain results: they must be applied 2-3 times a week.
So:
- - If you’re lazy
- - If you love practical solutions
- - If time is short
- - If you don’t want
to do a scrub before each application, you can buy muds that also act as a scrub: some have salt in them.
Or you can add sugar to your usual mud.
I said sugar, not salt, because salt added in the wrong amounts can destabilise the mixture.
APPLICATION TIPS
- - follow the instructions provided with the product; some muds need to be mixed before they are applied;
- - wear gloves, don’t get your hands dirty!
- - apply your mud over the shower tray to avoid making a mess;
- - wrap yourself in cling film (or in Cartene, if you are using my muds). This step is FUNDAMENTAL, it is not an optional. Applying the mud in an occlusive manner facilitates the penetration of the active ingredients.
- - keep the mud in place for as long as possible, no less than 45 minutes (yes, some instructions might say 20 minutes, but don’t listen to them), a whole hour is even better if you have the time. The longer the mud stays in contact with the epidermis the more the active ingredients will penetrate;
Ah, I almost forgot one last tip, the most important one...
ALLOW US TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE VERALAB MUDS!
We have added two heat effect muds to our line.
The first is Mad Mud Cellulite, an active heat-effect mud, with a thermoactive ingredient that tricks the neurotransmitters, thereby stimulating the circulation and absorbing toxins and stagnated fluids: it reduces localised adipose deposits, slims and smooths the skin.
It contains:
Grey Clay: which remineralises, purifies, detoxifies, drains and firms.
Pink Clay: with a hydrating action.
Butcher's broom and horse chestnut extracts: protect the microcirculation and blood vessel walls.
Centella asiatica extract: stimulating, firming and invigorating.
Ginger extract: reduces water retention, decreases adipose compression and improves the circulation.
Warming active ingredient: a sophisticated molecule capable of enhancing the sensation of heat by exerting positive vasodilation to improve the microcirculation.
The second is Mad Mud Superhot: with a formulation that is very similar to Mad Mud Cellulite, but is boosted by the thermoactive ingredient, to stimulate the microcirculation in the treated area even more effectively. This is why, if you have fragile capillaries, we recommend using Mad Mud Cellulite instead of the Superhot variant.
Both heat-effect muds act on localised adipose deposits and widespread or localised cellulite, with areas that are colder and are tender when touched.
For both muds the perception of heat is subjective and does not impair the effectiveness of the product - so even if you do not feel heat during the application, the mud is still acting!
And then there’s our draining mud Mad Mud Dren, which does not have a heat effect, so during the application you will not feel either heat or cold.
It is an active mud containing grey clay and micronised pink clay, and is enriched with magnesium sulfate and plant extracts with a natural draining and purifying action. It favours a reduction in water retention and drains fluid accumulations.
It contains:
- Blend of Pink Clay, Grey Clay and Micronised Clay: pink clay hydrates, while grey clay remineralises, purifies, detoxifies, drains and firms.
- Magnesium sulfate: exerts a selective osmotic action to promote skin renewal.
- Horsetail, alfalfa, raspberry, clover, nettle, parsley and bladder wrack plant extracts: enrich the functions of the product.
- Butcher's broom and horse chestnut extracts: protect the microcirculation and blood vessel walls.
- Centella asiatica extract: stimulating, firming and invigorating.
How to choose between one of the heat-effect muds and the Dren mud?
Mad Mud Dren is indicated for more spongy, widespread cellulite, where the skin has an orange-peel appearance and when water retention is also present.
None of our Veralab muds interfere with the thyroid, whereas in the case of pregnancy and breastfeeding, considering these delicate times, although there are no contraindications, we recommend to consider the appropriateness of using a mud carefully.
Now we’ve told you absolutely everything there is to know about muds.
