NUTRIENTS, NATURAL INGREDIENTS AND PRODUCTS FOR LONG, STRONG AND THICK LASHES

As we all know, eyelashes are anything but a detail, they are the essential to the way we look, because they enhance the intensity and personality of our eyes.

For several years now, lashes have been back in the limelight (and back under the lights of our mirrors) and have become - together with eyebrows - the cornerstones of eye make-up.

Besides covering them with mascara, there are other ways to increase their volume, namely ingredients, methods and products for making eyelashes grow, leaving them longer, stronger and thicker!

Just think, for example, of the shop shelves full of false eyelashes of all types and shapes, or the high streets brimming with salons specialising in lamination services, extensions and more besides.

Today, however, we are here to talk about more natural and less invasive methods.

But first things first.

EYELASHES: WHAT THEY ARE, WHAT THEY’RE FOR and how long they take to grow

Let’s start with the basics: eyelashes are hairs that grow on the rim of the eyelids.

Their job is to protect the eyes from impurities and being sensitive to touch, they alert us when an object comes close to the eye, which closes as a reflex (exactly like cat whiskers).

Like all the other hairs on our body (armpits, legs, etc.), their number and growth is pre-programmed by the body, and they cannot grow beyond a certain length.

Although it varies, the number of lashes can be quantified as between 150 and 200 for the upper lids and between 50 and 150 for the lower ones. The upper lids also have longer lashes (8-12 mm) than the lower lids (6-8 mm). They curve in opposite directions so that the eyelids can come together and close completely.

Talking about eyelash growth, you know when you find one on your cheek?

Don’t panic! It is normal for lashes to fall out, just as it is for hair and body hairs.

Lashes too have a life cycle, which lasts between 30 and 90 days and consists of 3 phases: birth, growth and loss. Normal loss means 6 or 7 lashes a day, but this number can be much higher in certain cases, due to various causes (excluding medical conditions, i.e. stress, vitamin-deficient diets, improper cleansing, poorly-performed cosmetic treatments).

So it is advisable to look out for signals and correct habits that can be detrimental (and not just for our eyelashes).

That said, you will now be wondering ‘so, how can I make my eyelashes grow naturally?

HOW TO MAKE EYELASHES GROW NATURALLY

By ‘naturally’ we mean methods that do not include artifices, but also that are not too demanding, both in financial terms and in terms of procedure.

In other words, we are talking about nutrients/foods that you can take, and natural ingredients and specific products to apply, such as those created by Veralab.

NUTRIENTS FOR MAKING LASHES GROW

Let’s start with a few pointers regarding a lash-lengthening diet.

For Twiggy-like eyes, fill your trolley with foods containing:

  • o  Vitamins A and C: found in fruit (citrus fruits, avocado, berries).
  • o  Iron: such as chicken, spinach, seafood and dried fruit.
  • o  Protein: fresh meat and fish.
  • o  Vitamin H: found in broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions and monkey nuts.
  • o  Vitamin E: in oily fruits (olive, peanuts, corn and walnuts), wheat seeds and cereals.
  • o  Vitamin B3: fish, chicken, beef, peanuts, peas and avocado.

CASTOR OIL AND NATURAL INGREDIENTS TO MAKE LASHES GROW

The most effective natural ingredients for making lashes grow are plant oils

Castor oil is the oil that is undoubtedly most commonly used to give lashes structure and lustre and protect them. Obtained by cold-pressing the seeds of the Ricinus Communis plant, castor oil is rich in keratin and vitamins and it actually works.

But it’s not the only one!

Other vegetable oils useful for this purpose are:

  • ·       rosehip oil (fatty acids, omega 3 and 6, vitamin E, various phytosterols and carotenoids)
  • ·       argan oil (fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamin E)
  • ·       jojoba oil (rich in ceramide)
  • ·       almond oil (vitamins A, B and E)
  • ·       olive oil (rich in vitamins B, A, C and PP, as well as in iron and magnesium)
  • ·       coconut oil (high fatty acid content)

But pay ATTENTION to the quality of the oils, they must be 100% pure and organic.

In addition, many of the oils on sale have not been refined for such a delicate area of the body and are likely to cause irritation and redness. So be sure to choose specifically formulated products.

Another thing: be careful of how you apply them, always remember to clean the tools you use thoroughly (or use disposable cotton buds) and make sure the oils do not drip into your eyes!

DOES CRYING MAKE THE EYELASHES GROW?

Who hasn’t asked themselves this question at least once? We have, so we investigated, we took a look and we can confidently say that no, unfortunately, this is a false myth.

If this were the case, Titanic could be patented as a definitive solution.

Now let’s move on to the targeted products!

PRODUCTS FOR STRENGTHENING LASHES AND MAKING THEM GROW LONGER: A GUIDE TO SERUMS

In this case we are essentially taking about serums, which are all the rage these days.

Let’s get a better understanding of how they work.

What do serums contain to make the eyelashes grow?

They usually contain ingredients like peptides able to stimulate the hair follicles, vitamins able to strengthen lashes and increase their volume, amino acids and plant extracts (such as pumpkin seed extract and castor oil) that slow the loss process.

How do serums act?

A good quality serum acts on the root of the hair, i.e. on the hair follicles, strengthening them and stimulating the growth of the hair. When applied every day, they give good results even after a few weeks (it goes without saying that each product has its own timeline).

Do eyelash serums really work?

We can confidently say that yes, lash serums do work, but beware, once again, quality is everything. It is essential to only use first-rate, clinically-tested products (remember, this area is extremely delicate!)

VERAPUMP, THE VERALAB LASH SERUM

Talking about quality serums, we can’t not mention our own masterpiece.

It is called VERAPUMP and is our potent eyelash serum with a patented formula:

  • ·       2RCC-PUMPTM COMPLEX. This innovative blend created by VeraLab is made up of a Rosa Chinensis and Rosa Canina phytocomplex dispersed in a vegetable glycerol base. The complex stimulates the eyelash bulb, guaranteeing increased length and volume. It is also an antioxidant and stimulates the hair bulb, delivering deep, intensive hydration.
  • ·       HYALURONIC ACID: hydrating and film-forming.
  • ·       VITAMIN E: antioxidant.
  • ·       PANTHENOL: soothing and protective.

VERAPUMP strengthens, nourishes and stimulates growth, boosting lash volume and reawakening natural vitality. Thanks to its active ingredients (95% of which are natural), it has a protective action and is also an excellent pre-mascara booster.

It couldn’t be easier to apply: simply draw a line, exactly as you would with an eyeliner, along the base of the lashes (after removing make-up and cleansing), morning and evening for at least 6 weeks.

MAKING EYELASHES GROW: WHAT NOT TO DO

After all those tips, here is some advice on the habits to lose if you want to keep your lashes strong and healthy.

Here are our NOT-TO-DOS:

  • o  Use eyelash curlers improperly: they must always be spotless (wash them every time with soap and water), only use them for special occasions and always BEFORE mascara.
  • o  Use waterproof mascara often: being waterproof, it requires aggressive removal. Opt for normal mascara instead!
  • o  Use poor-quality or old/expired mascara: for more information, read thearticle on the PAO!
  • o  Remove eye make-up improperly: forgetting to remove mascara properly can weaken the lashes.
  • o  Make excessive use of lamination services and extensions: these are invasive techniques that can stress the lashes and even make them fall out!
